Compulsory Equipment Requirements

For the 2025/2026 season, the compulsory equipment from the ISMF Sporting Regulations will be enforced for all USA Skimo-sanctioned events. Section 28 of the embedded document below contains the Compulsory and Supplementary Equipment table. Detailed descriptions of each item can be found in Section 31.

  • The avalanche transceiver has to be worn in a closed pocket (zipper only) inside the race suit at the belly level or as defined by the manufacturer.

USA Skimo will employ one exception to the ISMF regulations for the 2025/2026 season:

  • Ski brakes are the preferred system for preventing a potential runaway ski. In lieu of ski brakes, leashes will be allowed only for the 2025/2026 season. If leashes are used, they MUST be in use everywhere except in sections of the course marked specifically for travel on foot.
